Paris Saint-Germain’s opening bid for Hugo Ekitike has been rejected, according to reports in France.
The 20-year-old’s representatives are aiming to tie up a deal with the Ligue 1 champions after a move to Newcastle United stalled.
The Magpies reignited their interest from January in Ekitike but a move stalled last month after a dispute with the player’s agent.
Eddie Howe’s side have explored other targets, although have remained open to striking a transfer with Ekitike should his representatives lower their demands.
So far, it appears Ekitike has been unable to progress with a switch to PSG with latest reports claiming their opening offer has been rejected by Reims.
PSG are said to have offered €27million plus €5m in add-ons, compared to Newcastle’s €31m plus €5m in bonuses.
Should Ekitike eventually join PSG, the France under-20s international will face fierce competiton from Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Mauro Icardi.
