Newcastle United transfers: Will the Magpies be busy in the final days of the window?

The transfer window slams shut on Tuesday evening at 11pm - and the question on everyone’s lips at the moment is, will Newcastle United be busy or will the near summer-long quiet continue? Here we take a look at the key questions.

What are Newcastle United looking for?

The Magpies are keen to strengthen in a number of key areas with a deep midfielder wanted as well as a central defender and, in an ideal world, a striker to step in if Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin continue with their fitness struggles.

Which players are of interest?

Newcastle United retain an interest in Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

Phil Jones is another player who has been linked, of late.

Will United do any deals?

Well, Steve Bruce doesn’t sound confident at all. When asked whether business will go to the wire by Miles Starforth of our sister title the Shields Gazette, Bruce replied: “No.”

United’s biggest issue is making room in their 25-man squad, with every place currently taken up. Without players leaving from that main group, or three keepers being named instead of four, it looks like they might be done for business until the winter window, which opens up on January 1.

Are there likely to be any players leave before the deadline?

United are open to offers for a number of players, with the likes of Dwight Gayle, Jeff Hendrick, Isaac Hayden, Ciaran Clark and others thought to be available.
