Newcastle United will be without Kieran Trippier for Saturday afternoon's Premier League clash at home to Fulham as he serves a one-match suspension.

The England right-back picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign during last weekend's 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur. Trippier may have been a doubt for the visit of the Cottagers regardless after he was forced to withdraw on the hour-mark against AC Milan on Wednesday.

It'll be the first league match Trippier has missed for the Magpies since April 2022 when he was recovering from a metatarsal injury six games into joining from Atletico Madrid.

"It's a huge blow for us," United head coach Eddie Howe said on Trippier's ban. "Kieran is a standard for us really to get a level of consistent performance. We'll miss his quality.

“When he’s part of your biggest attacking threat every week yeah he’s a very difficult one to miss out. Even today he had his moments when he put in some really good crosses, particularly in the second half.

"He’s just an outstanding technician and we will certainly miss him against Fulham."

The 33-year-old joins Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes as the players to have reached the five-yellow card threshold. Any player shown five bookings in the opening 19 league matches is banned for one match. Matchday 20 is the trip to Liverpool on New Year's Day.

And three other players also walking a disciplinary tightrope are Sean Longstaff, Joelinton and Jamaal Lascelles. That means the trio must avoid bookings against Fulham, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest or else will serve a one-match suspension.

Elsewhere on the booking front, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn have two bookings Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Tino Livramento, Matt Ritchie, Matt Targett and Callum Wilson all have one Premier League booking each.
