Newcastle United ‘trying’ for more additions as Jonjo Shelvey update emerges

Newcastle United played their final friendly of the summer yesterday against Athletic Bilbao.

Eddie Howe’s side won 2-1 and can now look forward to the start of the new 2022/23 Premier League season.

First up is a home clash against newly promoted Nottingham Forest next weekend.

Anderson latest

Burnley have reportedly joined the race to sign Elliot Anderson on loan from Newcastle.

The youngster impressed during the second-half of the past campaign during his temporary stint at Bristol Rovers and helped the Gas win promotion from League Two.

According to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon, the teenager is now wanted by Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor.

Club ‘trying’ for more additions

The Toon Army are attempting to bring in some more faces in this transfer window.

They have already snapped up goalkeeper Nick Pope, left-back Matt Targett and centre-back Sven Botman this summer.

Howe has said more could be on the way, as per a report by the Northern Echo:

“We’re trying (to make a breakthrough). We’d love to add to the squad before Saturday’s game, but there’s no guarantee on that.”

Shelvey update

Jonjo Shelvey is currently nursing a hamstring injury.

The midfielder missed yesterday’s game against Bilbao after impressing in pre-season over in Austria earlier this month.

As per the Daily Mail, he is poised to miss ‘three to four’ weeks meaning he will sit out of the first couple of games of the new season at least which is a blow.
