One current Magpies star is said to be helping the club in their bid to sign a South American talent.

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly playing a key role in the Magpies’ attempts to land one of Brazil’s brightest prospects.

The former Lyon star has become an integral figure in Eddie Howe’s on-field plans and will be a crucial part of the United side that will compete in the Champions League for the first time in two decades during the upcoming season. Bruno’s influence behind the scenes has been significant and his impact on Tyneside has captured the attention of players in his homeland.

Brazilian news outlet BolaVip have claimed the Magpies are ‘preparing an astronomical proposal’ for Flamingo’s highly-rated midfielder Victor Hugo as he continues to enhance his growing reputation with Jorge Sampaoli’s side.

The youngster received glowing praise from former Flamengo manager Paolo Sousa prior to his own departure from the club, as he said: “He has good ability to interpret spaces, plays well with his back to goal and physically he has good explosiveness. He has a very good reading of the game and is a player who can make his presence known in the area with a goal.”

The 19-year-old has scored six goals and provided four assists in 63 appearances in all competitions since he made his senior debut in a Copa do Brasil tie against Altos in May last year. His progression has continued over the last 12 months and Hugo was linked with a move to Tyneside earlier this year and has also attracted interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Bola report suggested Newcastle have continued to monitor Hugo and have now made a decision to submit a bid for his services. The reported offer is said to be around £20.5m and Flamengo are now deciding whether to accept and allow on of their ‘future stars’ to depart.
