West Ham United manager David Moyes has stressed how highly he values Declan Rice amid speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Newcastle United, Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Hammers star has become a key player for club and country in recent years and his rise to prominence has led to talk he could make a big money move away from the London Stadium during the summer transfer window. Fees in excess of £80m have been suggested in various reports but Moyes seemed to fire a warning to any potential suitors after Rice gave another example of why he is in-demand on Thursday night.

Speaking after the midfielder scored a stunning solo goal in his side’s Europa Conference League win over Gent, the Hammers boss said: “If anybody didn’t think he could do that, they are completely naïve and don’t watch us close enough. He is some player. That is why we value him so highly. It was a Roy of the Rovers-type goal. He has so many parts to his game, he doesn’t always show them. He has a good personality but he could show it even more.

“His experiences with England have been huge. I can see him when he comes back, he has grown quicker and bigger, getting a chance to work alongside the quality of players they have got, and a great coaching staff, will do Declan the world of good.”

Magpies ‘very close’ to completing £4.75m winger deal

Reports in Denmark have suggested Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Odense’s teenage winger Yankuba Minteh.

After making his senior debut with the winning goal in a 2-1 victory against Copenhagen in October last year, the highly-rated 18-year-old has gone on to score two goals and provide six assists for his side, who are currently involved in the relegation round as the Superliga season approaches its final seven games.
