Newcastle United will wrap up their preseason preparations with a home friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday afternoon.

The Toon Army are gearing up for their Premier League curtain-raiser against Nottingham Forest next weekend, but first welcome the La Liga outfit in the second part of an exhibition match double-header.

On Friday night, Newcastle saw off Serie A high-flyers Atalanta in a 1-0 victory, with Chris Wood’s first-half penalty ultimately proving to be the difference.

That result on home soil followed on from a series of continental matches, with Eddie Howe’s side playing 1860 Munich and Mainz out in Austria before taking on Burnley and Benfica in Portugal.

And with two outings in such quick succession, this weekend will provide many familiar faces with the ideal opportunity to convince the manager of their worth ahead of an eagerly-anticipated top flight clash with Forest.

The friendly will be played at St James’ Park, with kick-off set for 3pm BST on Saturday July 30th.

Will the game be broadcast on television?

The match will be broadcast on NUFC TV free of charge, but due to UEFA restrictions cannot be shown live in the United Kingdom or Spain.

An excerpt from a statement released by the Magpies reads: “Less than 24 hours later, La Liga outfit Athletic are in town for a 3pm (BST) kick-off.

“Due to UEFA broadcasting restrictions, that game can not be broadcast live in the UK, but will be available in all other countries (except for Spain).

“Former Magpies favourite Peter Lovenkrands will join Rob Schofield in the commentary box.”

For viewers who are able to watch the match, NUFC TV is compatible with Chromecast, meaning that it can be streamed via their television.
