Winger update

Newcastle will ‘accept’ bids in the region of £25million and £30million for winger Miguel Almiron this summer, according to a report by Football Insider. He is attracting attention from clubs in Saudi Arabia at the moment and could leave for a new challenge in the Middle East.

The 30-year-old, who is a Paraguay international with 58 caps under his belt so far in his career, moved to England back in 2019. Prior to his switch to the North East, he played in America for Atlanta United and was a hit in the MLS.

Almiron has made 209 appearances for the Toon Army in all competitions and has chipped in with 30 goals, five of which came in the last campaign. He provides useful competition and depth to Howe’s attacking department but his future is up in the air right now.

If he was to leave St James’ Park, it would free up space and funds in the squad to pave the way for other reinforcements.

Midfielder linked

According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Newcastle have enquired about the availability of Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo. He had a loan spell at Liverpool back in 2022 but only played once for the Reds during his time at Anfield.

The Brazil international has spent this past term with Fiorentina and played 48 games for the Serie A outfit altogether, 33 of which came in Serie A, and he found the net twice.

He has now returned to his parent club though and it remains to be seen where he will be playing his football next season.

The Toon Army could see him as someone to bolster their options in the middle of the park and give them something different in that department.

Arthur may feel he has a point to prove after his tough stint at Anfield.

He started out in his native country with spells as a youngster at Goiás and Gremio before breaking into the first-team of the latter.

The Goiânia-born man caught the eye of Barcelona and moved over to Europe to link up with the La Liga giants in 2018.

Arthur then spent two years at the Camp Nou and made 72 outings for Barca, helping them win the title in his first year ahead of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Juventus lured him to Italy but his time there hasn’t quite gone to plan. He has been loaned out twice and is now believed to be on Newcastle’s radar.
