Jesse Lingard has left Manchester United - but former left-back Jose Enrique doesn’t believe Newcastle United should sign him.

The Red Devils announced on Wednesday evening that Lingard will officially depart on June 30 when his contract expires.

Lingard has been on the books at Old Trafford for 20 years but has called time on his Man United career following a campaign of very little football.

With Lingard out-of-favour under Ralf Rangnick, Newcastle attempted to sign the attacking midfielder on loan in January.

The 29-year-old was keen on a move to the North East but the Red Devils demanded a staggering financial package.

The Magpies aren’t expected to revisit a move for Lingard this summer, and Enrique agrees that is the right decision.

Enrique told bettingexpert: “Jesse Lingard, I like him but his off-the-field is what I don’t like too much, so I’m not sure about that. But definitely, quality-wise, he’s a very good player.

“I’m not sure about Jesse Lingard. He’s gone a season without playing.

“He’s a good player and he did well at West Ham when he was there. I think he can do well, he’s a player with a lot of qualities.

“I’m not sure if Eddie (Howe) will look for someone like this.”

Lingard is tipped for a return to West Ham United, where played 16 times and scored nine goals in a loan spell during the second half of the 2020/21 season.

The England international scored 35 goals in 232 games for Man United.
