Newcastle United reportedly remain keen on signing Borussia Mönchengladbach winger Marcus Thuram this summer. The attacker was linked with Eddie Howe’s side in the January transfer window but ended up staying put beyond the deadline.

According to Sport, the Toon Army are still in the frame for his signature and he remains on the ‘agenda’. However, there are a lot of clubs being mentioned as potential suitors with the report claiming fellow Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa are interested, along with European giants like Barcelona, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla.

Newcastle could see Thuram as someone to provide more competition and depth in attacking areas in the next campaign. He is out of contract at the end of this season and is due to become a free agent in late June meaning he would be available to snap up on a free transfer so he would be a shrewd addition for whoever wins the race.

The 25-year-old, who helped France reach the World Cup final earlier this winter, has been in fine form for Gladbach in the Bundesliga this term. He has scored 10 league goals in 18 games for Daniel Farke’s side but they are facing a real battle to keep hold of him.

Time will tell whether Newcastle will lure him to England and they would have to bat away competition from elsewhere to get him. They are back in action this weekend away at AFC Bournemouth as Howe takes on his former club.
