Newcastle United without £250m talent v Borussia Dortmund as 18-year-old handed shock call-up

Newcastle United are without a staggering 12 senior players as they take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this evening.

Newcastle United have included just 16 senior players in tonight’s Champions League squad against Borussia Dortmund (kick-off 5:45pm).

Injuries have ripped through Eddie Howe’s squad in recent weeks, which has left the Magpies depleted as they head to the Signal Iduna Park in need of a result to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

“You just see who’s fit and available. We’ve added a couple of younger players to the squad but we’ll go with that, that’s all we can do,” Howe told NewcastleWorld.

“You always get injuries but the problem with us is a lot of the injuries we’ve got currently are longer-term which means there is no relief coming around the corner which then leaves every game you play in a dangerous position.

“We wouldn’t have it any other way. We’ve really enjoyed the game we’ve had but they’ve come at a cost recently with injuries you can’t prepare for.”

Under-21s duo Ben Parkinson and Lucas De Bolle have been called up to squad to bolster numbers.

Here’s a list of the players Newcastle are without against Dortmund, either through injury, suspension or ineligibility:
