Newcastle United's 22-man squad v Man City: £45m boost as midfielder ruled out after Chelsea appearance

Newcastle United's 22-man squad for the FA Cup quarter-final tie away to Manchester City.

Anthony Gordon is expected to feature for Newcastle United in this evening's FA Cup quarter-final tie against Manchester City.

The former Everton winger was forced off in the first-half of the Magpies' 3-2 defeat at Chelsea on Monday and it was feared his knee injury would rule him out for the foreseeable future. However, those concerns were quickly allayed in the days after when the 23-year-old received his maiden England call-up on Thursday.

"Delighted for him," said Newcastle boss Eddie Howe. "I know it’s been a big aim and ambition of his since he was a little boy, and he fully deserves it in my opinion. He has been outstanding this year. He’s continued to grow week on week, I’m delighted that’s been recognised.

"He’s worked so far, from the first day of pre-season after coming back from the Euros with his country and doing so well there, he didn’t stop. He’s scored and created goals, and did brilliantly for the team. Delighted."

Howe then confirmed Gordon was due to train before leaving the North East for Manchester.

"We train again so we’ll do a full session and we’ll make a judgement after that," said Howe. He added: "It was a strange one because initially when you see a player come off you do fear there is a serious injury.

"He partly trained yesterday, and what I mean by that is we didn’t do a great deal but he joined in and seemed OK. "I don't think he's done anything serious which is great news for us."

It's understood Newcastle have picked up no fresh injury concerns from the trip to Chelsea, however they will be without Joe White, who is cup tied after appearing in the competition for Crewe Alexandra.

Here's the 22 players available to Howe - and the seven that aren't:
