Newcastle United co-owners Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben were “so proud” of the performance against Manchester City.
Eddie Howe’s side went toe-to-toe with the Premier League champions to play out a six-goal thriller in what was an early game of the season contender.

Hide AdThe Magpies responded tremendously to going 1-0 down after five minutes to surge into a 3-1 lead following goals from Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier.
During that period, United ripped open Pep Guardiola’s side. Allan Saint-Maximin, in particular, was the star of the show - claiming two assists and winning the free-kick that Trippier emphatically converted.
City, as champions do, hit back with two quick-fire goals from Erling Haaland and Bernando Silva but Newcastle showed the character and determination to see out a point and maintain their unbeaten start to the 2022-23 campaign.
And at full-time, co-owners Ghodoussi and Reuben could not hide their pride and took to social media to provide their verdict.

Also watching on from the directors’ box was Amanda Staveley and non-executive chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
After the game, Al-Rumayyan, Staveley and Ghodoussi made their way pitchside to congratulate Howe, Trippier and Saint-Maximin on the performance.
