Newcastle United's confirmed 18-man squad v Paris Saint-Germain as 19 y/o gets shock call-up

Newcastle United trained at the Parc des Princes ahead Tuesday night's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has named an 18-man squad for Tuesday night's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain (kick-off 8pm).

The Magpies are without 14 first-team players for the trip to the French capital with the likes of Sean Longstaff, Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson sidelined through injury.

The growing list of absentees saw Howe name a depleted nine-man bench for the 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday, consisting of three goalkeepers, four under-21s players, plus the experienced duo of Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett.

But in yet another selection blow for United, four of those players will be forced to drop out of the matchday squad in Paris due to UEFA Champions League regulations.

While players born before January 1, 2002 do not need to be included in the 25-man squad, they do need to be included on the ‘B List’. However, to be eligible, they must have played for the club for an uninterrupted period of at least two years or three years including a one-year loan spell.

Lewis Miley falls into this category but Alex Murphy and Amadou Diallo, who made their Premier League debuts at the weekend, do not having only joined the club's academy last year from Galway United and West Ham United, respectively.

Meanwhile, Newcastle only have three club-trained first-team players in Elliot Anderson, Longstaff and Dummett, meaning they could only name a ‘List A’ squad of up to 24 players, or 23 players with Elliot Anderson named in ‘List B’.

As a result, Emil Krafth, Matt Ritchie, Javier Manquillo and Mark Gillespie were left out of the squad when submitted in August and therefore cannot play in the Champion League.

Krafth missed the win over Chelsea through illness but would have been well enough for the visit to France. Meanwhile, Ritchie and Gillespie were on the bench on Saturday. Manquillo is also injured.
