Elliot Anderson makes his first Premier League start for Newcastle United against Liverpool (kick-off 5:30pm). In Joe Willock’s absence, Magpies head coach Eddie Howe has decided to stick with a three-man midfield and bring Anderson in alongside Joelinton and Sean Longstaff.
Many had expected £45million January signing Anthony Gordon to make his full debut, however that would have likely required a change in formation, as witnessed during the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth last weekend.
Gordon played as a second striker behind Alexander Isak, with Longstaff and Joelinton as the two midfielders. But for the visit of Liverpool, Howe has not deviated from the system that has served United brilliantly so far this season.
The introduction of Anderson is United’s only change from the trip to the Vitality Stadium. Alexander Isak retains his spot, despite Callum Wilson returning to the matchday squad after recovering from a minor hamstring issue.
