Newcastle United’s confirmed starting XI v Crystal Palace: Four changes & Sandro Tonali call

Newcastle United’s confirmed starting XI v Crystal Palace: Four changes & Sandro Tonali call.

Eddie Howe has named four changes to his Newcastle United starting XI to face Crystal Palace - with Sandro Tonali dropping to the bench (kick-off 3pm).

Tonali is subject to an investigation by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal betting activity but remains eligible to feature for the Magpies.

Speaking about Tonali on Friday, Howe said: “He’s had a very difficult couple of weeks - he’s been dealing with a lot. From what I can see he’s handling himself really well and dealing with his emotions incredibly strong. But underneath that, I’m sure there’s a lot going on so I’l have to make a call.

“But always I have to bring it back to football. I have to bring it back to his training and try and make the best decision for the team.”

The 23-year-old is on the bench with Joelinton returning to the starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Sven Botman remains sidelined with a knee issue so Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn continue as the back four with Nick Pope in goal.

Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton form the midfield three with Howe rotating his attack as Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy start on the wings. Callum Wilson starts through the middle.
