Eddie Howe has made one change to his Newcastle United starting XI for tonight’s Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Magpies’ head coach has recalled Sandro Tonali to his midfield but the rest of the team from Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burnley remains the same.
Callum Wilson and Joelinton miss out after Howe made late calls on the duo’s fitness.
Wilson has missed back-to-back wins at home to English & European champions Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and Burnley in the Premier League because of hamstring tightness.
Joelinton, meanwhile, was making just his second appearance since returning from a knee injury when he picked up a hamstring issue less than five minutes after coming on against Vincent Kompany’s Clarets.
Explaining the injury situation during his pre-match press conference, Howe said: “Callum we think won’t make tomorrow but he’s going to be close. As it stands now, he won’t make the game.”
“Joey is in a similar position where he’s close and we’ll make a late check on him. Sven [Botman] is out but Sandro [Tonali] is fine.”
As previously revealed by Howe, Sven Botman won’t return until after the international break due to a knee issue.
Joe Willock isn’t expected to return until mid to late October as he recovers from an Achilles injury. Meanwhile, summer signing Harvey Barnes won’t be back until 2023 after picking up a foot injury during the 8-0 win at Sheffield United.
