Newcastle United are set to confirm their 25-man Premier League squad for the second half of the 2022-23 campaign.

The surprise departures of Chris Wood and Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest, plus Karl Darlow’s loan switch to Hull City, have opened up three places, yet they won’t be filled by new signings Anthony Gordon and Harrison Ashby, who fall under the under-21s criteria.

Rules states players born on or after January 1, 2001, are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

Each Premier League club must submit a squad list after each transfer window closes. It can contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the “Home Grown Player” criteria. The remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be homegrown.
