Newcastle United are still firmly in the race to defy the pre-season odds and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Not since Alan Shearer was banging in the goals and Sir Bobby Robson was in the home dugout at St James Park have the Magpies graced European football’s premier cup competition - but that could all change over the next two months as Eddie Howe looks to guide his side into the top four of the Premier League.

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool will have a say as they also look to return to the Champions League - but another factor that will no doubt be heavily involved is VAR. There is not a club in the league that has not rued the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee and frustration has become commonplace across the country as the anxious wait for the decision from Stockley Park.
