Eddie Howe’s men headed into the final day at Burnley with an outside chance of finishing in the top 10.

The Magpies did their job - beating Burnley 2-1 courtesy of a Callum Wilson brace, but narrowly missed out after Brighton and Hove Albion’s win against West Ham.

To be even talking about a top-half finish is nothing short of incredible given United, for long periods, looked like a team destined for relegation.

That is hats off to Howe and his coaching staff, with Newcastle collecting 38 points in 2022 so far, form bettered only by Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
