Has there been a more eventful season at Newcastle United?

From the early days of the campaign as Steve Bruce’s side struggled to find a win and Mike Ashley loomed large over the club to the final home game when St James Park roared Eddie Howe’s men to a fine victory over the Gunners.

The PIF-led takeover of the Magpies has changed the landscape on Tyneside and reinvigorated a fanbase that has become accustomed with limited expectations and ambitious.

Wor Flags more than played a part with several impressive displays that provided the backdrop for the outstanding improvement under Howe that saw United write their name into Premier League history as the first club to escape relegation after failing to win in their opening 13 games.

But they did more than escape.

Buoyed by sell-out crowds, a revitalised St James Park watched the Magpies roar away from the bottom three and secure a mid-table finish by the time the curtain came down on the season.
