Jermain Defoe was full of praise for Alexander Isak following his brace in Newcastle United’s win over Nottingham Forest. The striker’s excellent finish from Joe Willock’s cross equalised for the Magpies before he secured all three points with his late penalty.
Isak was awarded Sky Sports’ Man of the Match after his stellar performance that saw him take his tally to six goals in ten matches since joining the club from Real Sociedad.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Defoe said: “Again, his [Isak’s] performance tonight was a masterclass number 9 performance.
“When you watch the game, I keep saying when he had to be that focal point he was strong with the ball, he was running in behind. Two good goals, pressure moments. He’s brilliant and you just can’t see him stopping at this point.”

Isak has forced his way into the starting line-up after struggling with injuries this season. Despite starting the campaign strongly, Callum Wilson has only netted one goal since November and has now found himself behind Isak in the pecking order.
Isak’s form earned him a call-up to the latest Sweden squad for their EURO qualifier fixtures against Belgium and Azerbaijan later this month. The 23-year-old has bagged nine goals in 37 appearances for his national team since making his debut when he was 17 years old.
