Newcastle United are considering an approach for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer, according to reports. The Gunners are launching a bid for the Premier League title but one bump they have faced in 2023-24 is their goalkeeping dilemma. Mikel Arteta ruthlessly axed Aaron Ramsdale just four games into the campaign, with David Raya arriving on loan from Brentford.

Arsenal fans were torn over the call as Ramsdale starred between the sticks throughout their title charge last season. The 25-year-old was named in the Premier League’s team of the season for 2022-23 but that did not stop him losing his place this time around. Ramsdale’s father, Nick, poured fuel on the fire earlier this season by publicly hitting out at Arteta. The shot-stopper’s future now appears likely to be away from the Emirates, with several top-flight clubs interested.

GiveMeSport claim Newcastle have a “level of interest” in the goalie ahead of the summer transfer window. Nick Pope was the undisputed number one for Eddie Howe until suffering a shoulder injury in December.

Martin Dubravka has been given the nod in his absence, with Loris Karius also being called upon against Arsenal. But the report now suggests the Magpies could offer Ramsdale an escape route out of North London.

The forgotten man was viewed as a potential stalwart for Arsenal in the coming years before being brutally replaced by Arteta. Ramsdale’s situation has divided Gunners fans - especially when Raya got off to a mixed start between the sticks. The Spaniard has since regrouped to enjoy a solid season but an unjust feeling around Ramsdale remains. Chelsea are also understood to be showing interest as they search for a new keeper.
