Nine players Newcastle United are ‘favourites’ to sign - including Leeds & Everton stars
The bookmakers have installed Newcastle United as favourites to sign up to nine players this summer.
It’s no secret that the Magpies plan to be busy in the transfer market - which opens on Friday - as they look to significantly strengthen Eddie Howe’s first-team squad.
United have already acted swiftly to seal a £15million permanent deal for left-back Matt Targett following his successful loan spell from Aston Villa.
Indeed, there will be plenty more where that came from, as fans look forward to the next 12 weeks of non-stop transfer talk.
The number of players Newcastle have been linked before the window has even opened is quite astonishing.
And as they tend to do, the bookmakers have weighed in on which players they think Howe & Co will target this summer.
Here are nine players the Magpies are currently ‘favourites’ to sign - according to the bookies. Although it has to be said, most of these deals are unlikely to happen.
1. Dean Henderson - 1/3
A move for a goalkeeper, i.e.Henderson, isn’t a transfer priority for Eddie Howe at present. Maybe, a deal could be revisited later in the transfer window.
2. Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 4/7
The 25-year-old striker has been identified as a target but Newcastle face a real struggle to land him, with Everton reportedly demanding £50m plus.
3. Lucas Paqueta - 4/9
The signing of best mate and Brazilian teammate Paqueta is Bruno Guimaraes’ ‘dream’ signing, which Magpies fans have also bought into. However, a deal looks unlikely at this stage.
4. Nick Pope - 10/11
Pope has an eye on leaving Burnley this summer following their relegation from the Premier League, with the bookies heavily tipping him to join Newcastle. Again, it seems unlikely.
