Alan Shearer has reacted to Newcastle United's dismal 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

The Magpies suffered their first defeat in nine domestic games following a second-half brace by Dominic Solanke. Eddie Howe's side were without 12 senior players for the visit to the Vitality Stadium and that quickly became 13 when Miguel Almiron limped off in the first half.

After the defeat, Shearer immediately took to X, formerly X, to provide his verdict.

"By far the better team won on the night," he said. "Newcastle have injuries and suspensions, but they were really poor and nowhere near it. Well done Bournemouth #BOUNEW"

Newcastle are without Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Sven Botman, Javier Manquillo and Matt Targett through injury, while star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was suspended. Sandro Tonali, of course, is serving a 10 month from football.

As a result, Howe called up under-21s trio Amadou Diallo, Alex Murphy and Ben Parkinson to the bench, with the latter making his Premier League debut in the second half.
