Newcastle United’s owners have injected a further £15million into the football club.

Shared by football finance expert Kieran Maguire on X, a Companies House document confirms that on December 31, 2024, the Magpies received a £15m cash injection by issuing one 5p share.

It was the third time in 2024 that Newcastle received a cash injection using the same method. In March, the club gained £37m by issuing one share before United received £35m in November, taking the total up to £87m for the calendar year.

It takes the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia’s investment in the club to over £650m since the takeover in October 2021.

“It’s £15m fresh cash almost certainly from PIF,” Maguire told his followers. “Will be used to pay the bills, especially wages. Good news is that it’s not a loan so no need to repay, and there’s no interest on it so good for PSR.”

Changes were made to the club’s ownership structure in the summer, almost three years after PIF, PCP Partners and RB Sports & Media completed their £305m takeover from Mike Ashley. Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi of PCP Partners left the club in July after their stake was acquired by PIF and RB Sports & Media at a 85% / 15% split.

Commenting on the changes Yasir Al-Rumayyan, PIF governor and Newcastle’s chairman, said: "Amanda and Mehrdad will forever have our tremendous thanks and well-wishes as they move on to focus on their other business interests. We have achieved so much together since 2021, including achieving Champions League football in our first full season as stewards of this incredible club.”

The year 2024 was a difficult one for the club financially after they were forced to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively, to avoid breaching Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

United failed to secure a major new signing in the summer and are unlikely to be active in January.

“I think you always go into every window to try and improve the squad if you can, that has to be your view otherwise you're going to stand still and regress,” said Howe after Saturday’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur.

“These days it's changed because it's about what you can do rather than what you want. So we're in the same position where we're looking at it as 'are we able to do anything' and if we're not we'll go with what we've got. I always say the players in the club are the most important people.”
