Manchester City star Rodri is set miss the remainder of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign after sustaining an ACL injury.

The Spain midfielder was forced off just 21 minutes into Man City’s 2-2 draw against title rivals Arsenal on Sunday evening following an innocuous collision with Thomas Partey.

And further assessment has confirmed a significant injury as Pep Guardiola’s clash prepare to face Newcastle United on Saturday (kick-off 12:30pm).

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee,” a statement read. “The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.

“The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester. “Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.”

Guardiola’s side have lost 33.3 per cent of Premier League games without Rodri since he joined the club in 2019. The loss rate reduces to just 10.9% when Rodri plays with City unbeaten in each of the last 52 league games that the midfielder has started.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne is a doubt for the visit to St James’ Park. The Belgian picked up an injury in last week’s Champions League draw against Inter Milan and he was withdrawn at half-time. He has missed the last two matches against Arsenal and Watford.

“I don’t think it will be long, but was not able today [against Arsenal]. I would not say Watford, I don’t know Newcastle but it will not be long,” the City boss said ahead of the Hornets clash.
