Newcastle United appear unlikely to sign Dutch wonderkid Xavi Simons this summer, according to reports.
There were suggestions the Magpies could pull off a huge coup by landing the Paris Saint-Germain No.10. With four goal contributions, including a semi-final strike against England, Simons was one of the brightest sparks at Euro 2024.

Hide AdThe 21-year-old was immediately loaned out to Leipzig once PSG triggered a buy-back clause last summer. Despite not making an appearance for the Ligue 1 giants, they know his potential and are keen to keep him on their books.
Newcastle were one of several Premier League clubs - including Liverpool - reportedly expressing interest. But concerns about PSG’s £85million demands has repelled permanent interest, with Leipzig now his likely destination for another loan move.
Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the Bundesliga outfit are “confident” they can tie down Simons for another year. He posted on social media: “Understand RB Leipzig are now confident to get the green light for Xavi Simons.
“Transfer battle with Bayern still ongoing but Leipzig CEO Mintzlaff, pushing in talks to bring Xavi back. PSG have no plans to sell Xavi. Open to loan move… and RB Leipzig hope to get it done.”

Hide AdEddie Howe has not fielded a natural No.10 for most of his time on Tyneside. His 4-3-3 system, with Bruno Guimaraes as a deep-lying playmaker, has little space for Simons unless he shifts out wide. Newcastle famously pulled out of the race to sign former Leicester City talisman James Maddison last year.
