Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley has agreed a lucrative deal with American sportswear company Under Armour.

Miley had previously represented Adidas, who returned as the Magpies’ official kit partner this summer in a deal worth a reported £30million per season.

The 18-year-old’s individual agreement with Adidas ended this year and while there were attempts to tie him down to a new contract, Miley has opted to join Under Armour’s rooster.

As per Mail Sport, the Stanley-born teenager has signed a multi-year deal to replace Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as the company’s ‘face of the north’. Alexander-Arnold left to join Adidas.

Miley broke into Newcastle’s first-team as a 17-year-old last season. He went on to make 26 appearances in all competitions with his goal in the 3-0 win over Fulham last December making him the club’s youngster-ever Premier League goalscorer.

However, Miley’s breakthrough campaign came to a premature end in March when he sustained a back injury. He was then on track to return for the beginning of July but fractured his metatarsal in what he described as a “freak accident”.

He didn’t play for seven months in total before making his return as a late substitute is last week’s 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

“He’s an outstanding player, he’s shown that in coming back to training,” said Howe. “You’d expect to see some rustiness from him technically or some physical development still to go, but I think he’s come back physically like a changed athlete. He’s more solid and filled out which will naturally come as he gets older, but he looks like he’s used his time away from the training pitch very well.

“Technically he has been really, really good so I have got no issue with his game, I think he looks in a really good place. It’s just a case of managing [his workload] he’s still very young, he’s had a couple of injuries which reflected on maybe we overused him last year and we don’t want him to get injured again.

“I think small steps initially for Lewis, but hopefully he can progress into playing some big minutes for us.”

Under Armour believe Miley will “will be a fixture in the national team in the not too distant future”.
