Paris St Germain manager Luis Enrique has paid tribute to his former manager Sir Bobby Robson ahead of Newcastle United’s Champions League fixture against PSG this evening.

The duo worked together during Robson’s time as manager at Barcelona while Enrique played as an attacking midfielder before the County Durham-born legend was given a General Manager position at the Camp Nou.

Robson only managed the Catalan club for one season, but left well respected by the players who performed under him and, when Enrique headed to St James Park on Tuesday evening for his side’s training session the former Barcelona manager seemed keen to remember his old gaffer.

The message from the Spanish boss was posted on social media and said: “Sir Bobby Robson… great memories! Thank you!” next to a bust of his former manager, who passed away in 2009.

Robson gave Enrique 51 Barcelona appearances in all competitions during the 1996-97 and the due were part of a team which won the Spanish Cup, Spanish Super Cup and European Cup Winners Cup.

Enrique’s managerial career started at Barcelona B in 2008 when Pep Guardiola was given the first team position and was the Barcelona boss between 2014 and 2017.
