It’s fourth versus fifth in the Premier League table, and a win for Eddie Howe’s side at St James’ Park will see them open up a six-point gap over Spurs with a game in-hand left to play.
Howe is aware of the game’s importance. "It’s a huge game for us - there’s no denying that at this stage of the season, with the games running out,” he said. “We’re playing one of our competitors in the league so it’s a big moment in our season.
“We’re pleased to be at home and hopefully we can feel the force of the crowd. This week we certainly need everyone united in the game which I’m sure we will be, and hopefully we can respond to last week’s disappointment."
Although a victory over Cristian Stellini’s side will make Newcastle’s Champions League dreams feel more like a close reality, Howe will be aware there is still plenty of work to do. Third place Manchester United sit three points above, while Aston Villa (50), Brighton and Hove Albion (49) and Liverpool (47) aren’t completely out of the running after positive results on matchday 31.
