It’s been a breakthrough week for Newcastle United on the transfer front.
The Magpies completed their first summer signing, bringing in 20-year-old French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims for £18million.
Now the hunt for summer signing number two is underway.
Newcastle want to sign Osasuna winger Victor Munoz and, as reported by NewcastleWorld, believe they are edging closer to a deal following talks.
Meanwhile, United have reignited their interest in James Trafford and should it be third time lucky, it would almost certainly spell the end of Nick Pope’s time at the club.
Eddie Howe’s side are looking to bounce back from what was a poor 2025-26 season. While they reached the last 16 of the Champions League and the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, their Premier League campaign fell way short of expectation, ending the term in 12th place.
And rubbing salt into the wounds were local rivals Sunderland. The Black Cats were in League One when Howe took charge of Newcastle but in their first season back in the Premier League have done the double over the Magpies and qualified for the Europa League for the first time in their history.
