Tottenham Hotspur have piped Barcelona to the £8.5million signing of Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall.

The 18-year-old sensation caught the eye whilst playing for Djurgardens. Bergvall has gone on to make 41 senior appearances and recently made his international debut after coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Estonia in January.

Bergvall had a trial at Manchester United a couple of years ago and Swedish outlet Expressen claimed earlier this month that Newcastle United had made an offer for the midfielder.

In the end, the decision boiled down to either Barcelona or Spurs and Bergvall chose the latter. The North London announced on Friday he has signed a five-year contract ahead of officially joining on July 1.

Bergvall willl continue at Djurgardens for the rest of the campaign.

"It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League - the best league in the world," said Bergvall. "It’s a really good club with a great manager and a really hungry, young team that play good football and is fun to watch.

"So it's a pleasure for me to join this big club. It feels like the beginning of a new era with a great coach. He gives a lot of players the chance to go on the big stage."
