Brentford have made a £25million bid for Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa, according to reports.

Tottenham Hotspur were rumoured to have moved ahead of Newcastle United in the transfer tug-of-war last week. Nusa is one of Norway's top talents, making four appearances for his country at just 18.

The wideman has been enjoying a breakout campaign at Brugge, with seven goal contributions and appearances in the Conference League. Newcastle were one of several Premier League clubs linked with signing him in the January transfer window.

Dan Ashworth has prioritised developing youth since his appointment as sporting director almost two years ago. Youngsters like Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh have arrived on Tyneside as the Magpies plan for the future.

But Nusa is not expected to be the next prodigy that joins the Saudi-backed revolution at St James’ Park. Spurs, as one of the biggest forces in London, are also set to be snubbed despite their resurgence under Ange Postecoglou.

There are claims that the Bees will allow Nusa to rejoin Brugge on loan until the end of the campaign. His current manager, Ronny Deila, conceded the talent would leave the club but hoped to keep him until the summer - suggesting an instant loan for the remainder of the campaign would be best for all parties.

“It could be a good option for him (rejoining on loan),” he said. “You shouldn’t forget that we are working on our season here. I don’t think he’ll leave now. He wants to stay and we want that too.

“He is an important player. There is of course a lot of interest. If it doesn’t happen now, it will be this summer. The most important thing is that he stays focused and wants to get better.

“I think he’s handling it well because he’s still young. Now a decision has to be made and he has to do the best he can for us. I hope and think we will keep him until June. And then he will be even more ready to go.”

Brentford are now in pole position to sign Nusa, with the Evening Standard reporting that they have agreed a £25million deal. The 18-year-old would become Thomas Frank’s fourth signing of the winter window.
