Newcastle United’s first Champions League adventure in 20 years was always going to be a huge challenge for the team’s squad depth and fitness - but nothing could have prepared Eddie Howe and his team for the avalanche of injuries that his they have faced during the 2023/24 season.
Over the course of the campaign many of the club’s key stars including Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Joelinton have all missed large periods of the season through various different injuries. These problems have been compounded by the long-term suspension of marquee signing Sandro Tonali, who has missed nearly the entirety of the campaign due to a gambling related suspension.
But where do Newcastle rank in the overall table of days missed through injury and how do they compare to other clubs in European competitions such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal. Using data from Premier Injuries we take a look at the injury table from bottom to top.
