Chelsea thought they had taken the lead in the fourth minute when Cole Palmer found the bottom right corner. The goal was awarded on field before VAR intervened.
The Premier League Match Centre explained: “Palmer’s goal was initially awarded on-field. The VAR checked and confirmed that Palmer was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed.”

Newcastle equalised in the 32nd minute when Lewis Hall’s cross was converted by Alexander Isak from close-range. VAR checked for offside on Tino Livramento’s pass to Hall and Hall’s cross to Isak but the equaliser stood.
It was Isak’s second goal of the campaign, his first since the 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
