Wins at Old Trafford don’t come often for Newcastle United, no matter how good, indifferent or bad Manchester United are.
Wednesday night’s 3-0 win in the Carabao Cup was only the Magpies’ second win at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ since 1972, and their first in 10 years when Yohan Cabaye famously scored.
For even the most positive Newcastle fans, a result last night felt somewhat impossible as a mix of injuries and fatigue forced Eddie Howe to name eight changes to his Newcastle starting XI.
But how wrong those doubters (including us!) proved to be. Goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock wrapped up an emphatic win with relative ease to set up a quarter-final tie at Chelsea on Tuesday, December 19.
