Manchester United star Casemiro has labelled Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães as a ‘great player’ as they pair prepare for international duty. The pair play together for Brazil.

The 25-year-old, who has made 14 caps for his country to date, has been a hit since making the switch to England. He has recently been rewarded with a new deal. He helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League last term under Eddie Howe. They are now currently sat in 8th place in the Premier League table.

Casemiro, who moved to Old Trafford for Real Madrid for £70million last year, has been impressed with what he has since from his international teammate and has told Brazilian news outlet OGOL: “Recently, Bruno is a player who has been doing an exceptional job at Newcastle. With every workout and every game I’m more comfortable with him.

“He is a great player, who has been demonstrating this in the most difficult competition in the world. It’s not up to me to determine who I’m going to play with. But of course, when you play longer with a player, you have a greater adaptation.”

Prior to his move to Newcastle, Guimaraes spent two years on the books at Lyon. He was a key player for the French giants and made 71 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with three goals before his switch to England. The Rio-born man was delighted to pen his contract extension earlier this month and said: “I’m absolutely delighted. The fans have made me feel at home since my first day here and I feel so loved in my life.

“I’m so happy here. It’s a place that is so comfortable to be and I hope to keep making the supporters happy and helping the team do well. That’s my goal, because there are no words to describe how happy I am to be here.

“I remember in my first interview, I said I wanted to play for this club in the Champions League and now it’s happening. We are doing so well and when I look around the pitch at my team-mates, I am so proud of them all. I’m proud of everyone; the team, the staff, the owners and the fans.

“The city believes again and it’s unbelievable what we have done for the team. I hope that this can continue. It’s amazing what has happened in my life in the last two years.”
