Alan Shearer was left buzzing as Newcastle United continued their march towards Champions League qualification with a 4-1 win at Everton last night.

A brace from Callum Wilson, and goals from Joelinton and Jacob Murphy sealed a seventh win in eight, a result that puts the Magpies eight points above fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur with six games remaining.

“Another great win and performance from the Toon,” Shearer said at full-time. Superb to watch.”

Yet there was one moment in the game that left Shearer stunned - and that was down to the individual brilliance of £60million club-record signing Alexander Isak.

After Dwight Gayle had just pulled a goal back for the Toffees to make it 3-1, Isak almost immediately picked up the ball on the halfway line to race down the left-hand side.

The Swede showed extraordinary trickery and turn of pace to beat several Everton players before dinking the ball across goal for Murphy to score his third in just two matches.

“OMG what a goal that is,” Shearer tweeted. “The run from Isak was OUTRAGEOUS to set up Jacob Murphy.” Newcastle later posted a replay of Isak’s assist to which Shearer replied “pure filth”.

Bizarrely, Isak wasn’t actually credited with the assist in the end after his cross deflected off Everton defender James Tarkowski before falling into Murphy’s pass.

In response to Premier League Fantasy Football, the Magpies’ Twitter account posted a GIF of Isak’s ‘puzzled’ celebration from Sunday afternoon’s 6-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
