Newcastle United had the last laugh over Ralph Hasenhuttl’s January transfer window rant.
The Magpies have been fully aware of the Southampton boss’ comments after the fixture was originally postponed following a Covid-19 in United’s camp.

Hasenhuttl claimed it was “not really fair” that United’s new signings can play in the re-arranged fixture.
What Ralph Hasenhuttl said
He said: “We were discussing in the last Premier League meeting about what happens with the winter signings for the postponed games, if they’re allowed to play or not.

“For us it’s the same, we can now also with our new owners sign new players and that is not really fair to play in games that have been postponed.
“The last word has not been spoken so far.”

Oh, the irony...
Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Chris Wood and Bruno Gumiaraes started at St Mary’s - and it was perhaps ironic that two of those were on the scoresheet.
Following Stuart Armstrong’s opener, Wood headed home his first Newcastle goal at the eight attempt.

Guimaraes then marked his full debut with a stunning goal, backheeling home the winner shortly after the break.
Despite not being able to keep his mouth closed, Hasenhuttl was silenced at full-time as United inflicted just a second home defeat of the season on the Saints.
Asked about the impact of United’s January recruit, Hasenhuttl issued a five-word response “It doesn’t interest me today.”
