Scottish giants Rangers were reportedly unsuccessful with a bid for a winger attracting interest from Newcastle United and several of the Magpies’ Premier League rivals.

Egypt international Ibrahim Adel has quickly captured the attention of clubs across Europe after he was named as player of the tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations Under-23s championship earlier this summer. The 22-year-old was a key part in his country’s run to the final but was unable to prevent them lifting the trophy after they fell to a defeat against Morocco.

Adel actually made his senior debut for Egypt in a friendly against Liberia in September 2021 and has gone on to win four more caps, with the latest coming last week when he came off the bench to help his side to a 1-0 win in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia.

Adel has made a major impact at club level after scoring 26 goals and providing nine assists in 110 appearances for Egyptian club Pyramids FC and his form was said to have led to Mo Salah recommending the winger to Liverpool.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast earlier this year, journalist Graeme Bailey said: “We’re told on this one that Chelsea’s interest is to send him to Strasbourg as well, Ibrahim Adel. He’s a player we have spoken about before. Mo Salah recommended him to Liverpool. He is one of the best young players in African football and has been for a little while. He plays for Pyramids in Egypt, Mo Salah does like him and he recommended him to Liverpool.”

TEAMtalk have reported Newcastle, Chelsea, Brighton, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Burnley have all monitored Adel’s progress and have suggested Belgian duo Anderlecht and Club Brugge have ‘expressed an interest’ in a potential deal.

However, the report also reveals Rangers failed in an attempt to sign Adel during the summer transfer window after holding talks with Pyramids FC and the player’s representatives.
