Pundits have been discussing Newcastle United's disappointing performance against AFC Bournemouth over the weekend.

Alan Shearer and Jermaine Jenas have had their say on Newcastle United's disappointing defeat to AFC Bournemouth. The Magpies were dealt a big setback on the South Coast, losing 2-0 to the struggling Cherries.

The defeat meant Newcastle dropped to seventh place ahead of the international break, six points off the top four. Eddie Howe's men have been hit and miss so far this season, picking up some big wins but simply failing to turn up on other occasions, and Saturday was undoubtedly one of those occasions, as Match of the Day pundit Jenas highlighted on Saturday night.

"It's been a frustrating start to the season for Iraola, and it was the first time watching them - against a wounded Newcastle side I have to say - that they really stamped their authority and what he's trying to implement into their style of play. They were on the front foot from minute one, they were straight at Newcastle," said the former Spurs star.

"Newcastle were flat today, there's no doubt about that, but right from the off, you have Christie on the edge of the box for a cutback. Bodies forward, getting shots on target, and I think Semenyo and Solanke up top were linking up well. Their running power and forward runs really hurt Newcastle today."

Magpies legend Shearer also had his say on the performance, tweeting: "By far the better team won on the night. Newcastle have injuries and suspensions, but they were really poor and nowhere near it. Well done Bournemouth." Newcastle now go into the break before facing a challenging few weeks, taking on a resurgent Chelsea before facing PSG in a crucial Champions League clash in Paris. They then face Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham and AC Milan as part of a tricky fixture list heading into the festive fixtures. With a two-week break, Howe will hope to see some of his injury problems subside slightly before the Magpies return to action.
