Martin Dubravka has been left out of Newcastle United’s squad to face Benfica due to a “minor” injury.

Eddie Howe has named his starting XI to face the Portuguese giants in the Eusebio Cup, which includes summer signings Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

Elliot Anderson also starts as he looks to continue his fine pre-season form - partnering Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes in a three-man midfield.

But the main talking point is Dubravka’s absence after the Slovakian also sat out of United’s training session with Burnley on Saturday.

It has fuelled speculation about the 33-year-old’s future as he battles Pope for the No.1 spot.

However, it is understood Dubravka is missing due to a “minor” injury.
