Newcastle United were without Allan Saint-Maximin for Saturday afternoon’s 1-1 draw at West Ham United.

Eddie Howe’s side remained four points above the Premier League relegation zone after Joe Willock cancelled out Craig Dawson’s opener.

The Frenchman joins a lengthy injury list, which also includes key stars Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson.

Here, we take a look at the Magpies’ absentee list and their potential return dates:

Allan Saint-Maximin

The injury

Saint-Maximin injured his calf during the recent 1-0 victory at home to Aston Villa, which forced the Frenchman to miss the trip to West Ham.

What Eddie Howe has said

Speaking after the game on Saturday, Howe said: “Maxi got a kick on his calf against Aston Villa, I think you saw him limping towards the end of the game.

“He didn’t train this week. We hoped he’d be fit but obviously he didn’t make the game.

“Hopefully, nothing too serious with Maxi but it was enough to keep him out today.”

Potential return date

Howe appears hopeful that Saint-Maximin will return for the visit to Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Fraser

The injury

Fraser gingerly walked off the pitch when replaced by Miguel Almiron on 77 minutes at the London Stadium.

“I don’t know at this moment in time,” Howe said post-match. “I think he said, as he was coming, that his hamstring was a little bit sore but we’ll see.

“It could be a bit of fatigue or cramp in there.”

Potential return date

If it is indeed fatigue or cramp then Fraser should be OK for the trip to Brentford this weekend.

The injury

It was feared Manquillo had suffered ankle ligament damage during the win against Aston Villa.

However, the injury was not as bad as first feared.

What Eddie Howe has said

Howe said on Friday: “Manquillo went off after landing awkwardly on his ankle following a header but we don’t think that’s serious but he’ll miss the game (West Ham).”

Manquillo is expected to be touch and go for the visit to Brentford. If not then, the Spaniard should be back for Brighton a week later.

Kieran Trippier

The injury

An x-ray showed Trippier had broken the fifth metatarsal in his left foo, not long he scored the winner against Aston Villa.

What Eddie Howe has said

“He had his operation yesterday and that went well.,” Howe revealed on Friday, “That was good news.

“I don’t know at this moment in time how long he’s going to be out. We obviously hope to have him back before the end of the season but it’s a significant injury which is a big blow to us as he was performing so well.

“In terms of definite timescale, no. We’ll have to see how his early rehab goes.”

Potential return date

Research from PremierInjuries shows it takes, on average, 80 days i.e 11-and-a-half-weeks to recover.

That will see the England right-back ruled out until May 7 when Newcastle face Manchester City.

Callum Wilson

The injury

Newcastle’s top scorer has been missing since the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on December 27.

“We’ll go more on how he feels than a specific time given by the physios or doctors.

“It’s been slow progress for him since the initial injury. He’s been on crutches. I think he’s come off those crutches now, and is walking, which is a big step.

“We all wish Callum to come back as quickly as possible, but when he comes back, he’s got to be fit and ready to give his best.

“I don’t think it’s going to be short-term. Hopefully, he can make the last few games of the season, and really help us in the key moment.”

Similar to Trippier, Wilson is unlikely to return until the latter weeks of the campaign.

Matt Ritchie

The injury

Ritchie has missed the last four games - Leeds, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham with a knee injury.

What Eddie Howe has said

Howe said: “Matt’s in a good place. I don’t think he’s too far away from returning.

“It was a strange injury with Matt. He was just striking a ball and felt something in his knee.

“He’s had a period where he had to back right off and have minimal activity but he’s running again in a straight line and he’s stepping up closer to being back full-time with the group.

“I anticipate he won’t be too long.”

Potential return date

Not yet known, but a return sounds like it is just around the corner for the Ritchie.
