Newcastle United’s predicted starting XI v Borussia Dortmund as Eddie Howe makes Sandro Tonali decision.

Newcastle United are set to have Sandro Tonali available for tonight’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Latest reports in Italy claim Tonali is facing an eight-month ban from football after being subject to investigation by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal betting activity.

However, official confirmation is unlikely to arrive before this evening, meaning the 23-year-old is eligible to feature. Any suspension is only effective from the following day.

Tonali has started both Champions League group games against former club AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain and was a 69th-minute substitute in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The Italian received a warm reception from the St James’ Park crowd.

“It was emotional for him,” said head coach Eddie Howe. “That was clear to see. That will help him long-term.

“He will always be able to reflect back on that love he got from the supporters when he really needed it. Hopefully, that will help his long-term relationship with the supporters.”
