Sandro Tonali is feeling loved at Newcastle United as supporters continue to chant about their "midfield maestro" on the terraces.

The Italian is three month into his nine month ban from football after being found to have bet illegally during his AC Milan days. Tonali joined the Magpies from the Serie A giants in the summer for £52million and went on to appear 12 times before his suspension kicked in.

Despite not being able to play in competitive matches, the 23-year-old has trained with his teammates as normal and is a regularly spectator at St James' Park as he counts down the days until his August return.

Tonali has received constant support from everyone associated with Newcastle, none more so than the supporters in recent weeks whose catchy new chant 'Sandro ole ole ole' is a matchday staple. Indeed, United assistant manager Jason Tindall is a fan.

“It’s great because Sandro is a great lad," said Tindall. "He trains really hard every single day and he’s going to be a top player for this football club moving forward. To see the fans showing him that love… it’s been a really difficult time for him.

"He’s obviously really important and I’m just he’ll take a lot of confidence and love from that."

Wetherspoons included... Tonali has wasted no time in getting used to his new surroundings with Newcastle defender Dan Burn recently revealing the midfielder's English is now "unbelievable". The ability to communicate, as well as take part in team events, should stand Tonali in good stead.

"We’ve got quite a few months until Sandro can play in a competitive game but he’s training well every single day," Tindall added. "We’ve been working with him to make sure when he does come into the team he’s ready and can go out there and show all the Newcastle fans what a top player he is.”
