Sean Dyche makes Newcastle United 'finances' claim and issues verdict on Anthony Gordon and Eddie Howe

Everton boss Sean Dyche has been speaking about Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe and former Toffee Anthony Gordon ahead of Thursday night's clash at Goodison Park.

Everton boss Sean Dyche has had his say on Anthony Gordon and Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe ahead of Thursday night's clash at Goodison Park. The Magpies make the trip to Merseyside on Thursday as they look to follow up their hard-earned win over Manchester United.

Howe's men are closing in on the top four, while Everton find themselves battling the drop after suffering a 10-point deduction that derailed their solid start. They are currently two points from safety with a game in-hand, and that's despite winning three of their last five and losing just one of those games.

On Thursday, Newcastle will face an Everton side whose position does not reflect their season so far, given the points deduction, and they will have to produce a solid performance to come out on top. One player who won't need extra motivation is Gordon, who will take on his old club following his move last January. Current Everton boss Dyche missed working with Gordon, but he is aware of the winger's quality.

"I don't know much about him in terms of working with him on a daily basis," said the Toffees boss during his pre-match press conference. "It seems like he has settled into life up there. They've collected some very good players with a very good manager. It's not about one player. Other than their injuries, I think they've got good squad."

Speaking about Howe, a manager he once replaced at Burnley, Dyche added: "As a manager, you develop with experience and time, and he has certainly done that. He was beginning to make a change at Newcastle when he went in there, and he had obviously made a huge change at Bournemouth from his history and what he did there. it was incredible. At Newcastle, he corrected things in the early part and the finances obviously helped. Along with his good coaching, his knowledge, his staff...it's a good mixture."
