Seven players Newcastle United could sign before transfer deadline - plus 6 possible exits
As we enter the final month of the summer transfer window, Newcastle United are stepping up their search to bolster the attacking areas.
The Magpies kick-off the new Premier League campaign on Saturday when they welcome newly-promoted Nottingham Forest to St James’ Park.
United finished 11th in the league table last season after an incredible run of results in 2022, form bettered only by Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Naturally, the aim this term is to improve on that finish.
To try and do that, Eddie Howe has strengthened his backline with the arrivals of goalkeeper Nick Pope, central defender Sven Botman and left-back Matt Targett.
But when it has come to recruiting attacking players, the Magpies have been left frustrated but won’t panic with still plenty of time left in the summer window.
And here, NewcastleWorld takes a look at some of the transfers - both ins and outs - Newcastle could complete before the deadline on September 1.

1. IN: James Maddison
It’s a difficult deal to do with Leicester City believed to be holding out for around the £60million. Newcastle have submitted two bids for the 25-year-old in hope of reaching a compromise with the Foxes.

2. IN: Timo Werner
Newcastle have enquired about Werner and told Chelsea they are willing to pay a loan fee, plus a sizeable chunk of his wages. Reports in Germany suggest he favours a move back to RB Leipzig but as it stands, Thomas Tuchel wants to keep him.

3. IN: Maxwell Cornet
Cornet has been discussed by Newcastle’s transfer chief after learning about the £17.5million in his contract. A reasonable fee, but the Magpies would prefer to pay a chunk now and the rest later.

4. IN: Ismaila Sarr
Sarr, despite starting Watford’s first game of the Championship season against Sheffield United, remains set on leaving Vicarage Road. Newcastle were first linked with the Senegalese forward earlier this year.
