Gareth Southgate was on hand to watch Newcastle United’s demolition of Aston Villa at the weekend as several Magpies stars boosted their hopes of forcing their way into England’s World Cup squad.
It would be safe to suggest Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope have all but secured their place on the plane to Qatar as their high level of quality and consistency has seen both players play lead roles for Eddie Howe’s side throughout an impressive first three months of the season.
