Jesper Lindstrom is expected to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt this summer after sporting director Timmo Hardung confirmed there have been no approaches.

The Denmark international was briefly linked with Newcastle United last month amid suggestions head coach Eddie Howe was hoping to bring in another midfielder alongside Sandro Tonali, who arrived from AC Milan for £52million.

Hardung, however, insists no club have made an official approach for Hardung, who reportedly has admirers at AC Milan and RB Leipzig.

“There are no concrete offers (for Lindstrom),” Frankfurt’s sporting director told Sky Germany. “No one has approached us, nor Jesper himself.”

Lindstrom started his career at Brondby before joining Frankfurt in 2021, where he scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists in 77 appearances.

The 23-year-old, who can play as a midfielder or wide forward, has been capped 10 times by Denmark and made three appearances at last year’s World Cup.

Lindstrom, for his part, is in no rush to leave the 2022 Europa League winners.

“I’ve said that I enjoy playing in the Champions League and the big tournaments in general. But if (a move away) doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen,” said Lindstrom.

“I love living and playing in Frankfurt. It’s a really cool place. The facilities are great, it’s a first-class city and the airport is close. My girlfriend also likes living there, which is important to me, because if she’s not happy, I’m not happy!”

“Before a transfer, I’d look at the coach, the style of play and the competition. If it’s possible to get playing time. If that’s not the case, I think it’s ridiculous to change clubs.

“I leave it to my agent. (He) is talking to the people he needs to talk to, and then we’ll see what happens.”

Given the emergence of 17-year-old Lewis Miley and the pre-season form of Elliot Anderson, central midfield has become less of a priority as the Magpies work to a strict transfer budget in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

As it stands, Howe is looking to bolster his defence as talks with Southampton over full-back Tino Livramento continue. United have recently let Jamal Lewis join Watford on loan, while Harrison Ashby is expected to join Swansea City.
